The Impact of a Teacher

This week was teacher appreciation week at my nephew’s school. Some influential teachers in my life came to mind. Although, there are many I’ll share about two whose investment continues to shape the person I am today. My 4th grade teacher, Miss Ingram, led me to Jesus. She put teaching us about God and our need to know Him personally above all else. Near the end of the school year, I prayed with her to ask Jesus into my life. Another teacher who comes to mind is, Mr. Biggs. He taught junior high Bible, Study Skills, and Geography. His teaching about the art of note taking, organization, and listening skills have served me well. Sorry, Mr. Biggs but I’ll be forever geographically challenged:) However, I love to relax while coloring with colored pencils to this day. My first exposure to the art of colored pencils was when I completed the map coloring work you assigned. If I had to pick just one take away from your teaching it would be the skills you taught me about Bible study and prayer. I learned skills that have helped me understand God’s Word more clearly. You taught us that there are many ways to pray and had us try each. Finding I could use my love of writing to pray to God has strengthened my relationship with God and provided much comfort. Mrs. Ingram and Mr. Biggs, wherever you are today I hope you know your legacy lives on. You taught me skills for life that go beyond any lesson in the classroom. I’m eternally grateful.
